WESTMORELAND STATE PARK
Location: Located 40 miles east of Fredericksburg on Route 3.
Age: Miocene (about 5 to 25 MYA).FOSSILS: Numberous vertebrates bones and fragments (Turtle shell, Crocodile, Baleen, Porpoise, Sea cow).
Fossil: Shark Teeth Carcharadon (Great white), Isurus (Mako), Hexanchus (Cow), various Carcharhinus (Requiem). Ray fragments and dental plates (Myliobatis sp.?) Gastropods Ecphora gardnerae (murex snail), Turritella plebeia (turret snail). Pelecypods Ark and Astarte clam, some beautiful full formed Chesapecten nefrens (scallop).
Comments: This is a really fascinating site, and if you are patient and have a tidal chart you will find alot of stuff, there is a nominal fee to enter the park.

GORE,VIRGINIA
Location: This is a road cut on Route 50 across from the little town of Gore. It is located about 1/8 of a mile from Hebron Baptist church. 11 miles west of Winchester, Va.
Age: Devonian/Silurian 360 to 438 MYA.
FOSSILS: Brachiopods (Tropidoleptus carinatus), Pelecypods (Modiomorpha), Cephalopods (nautiloids), Crinoids (Arthroacantha sp)and of course Trilobites (Phacops rana).
Comments: This roadcut is located real close to well, the road, cars and trucks come by pretty fast so, WATCH OUT!Most of my luck has been with Phacops rana it has turned up pretty well.

YORK COUNTY, VIRGINIA
Location: Located at the mouth of Indian Field Creek, also along the south bank of the York river. 3.7 miles west of Colonia National Memorial Parkways intersection with route 17 in Yorktown.Best to followriver on local map of area.
Age: Late Miocene
Fossils: Raysdental platesGastropods: Diodora (limpet), Ecphora (murex snail), Turritella plebia (turret snail).Pelecypods: Anadara (ark clam), Chesapecten jeffersonius (scallop), Placopecten clintonius (scallop), Venericardia (cardita clam), Coral: Septastrea. Sharks teeth not many, Carcharhinus (requiem sharks), Notorhynchus (cow sharks), Carcharadon (great white),Isurus(Mako shark). Occasional fish, bird, reptile and mammal bone or fragment.
Comments: (Update) This location was affected by Hurricane Isabel. It might be difficult to locate any of the fossils listed for this location. Thanks to Jennifer for the update.
